چکیده
Abstract We discuss an important issue that is not directly related to the main theses of van Doorn et al. ( Computational Brain and Behavior , 2021) paper, but which frequently comes up when using Bayesian linear mixed models: how determine sample size in advance running a study planning Bayes factor analysis. adapt simulation-based method proposed by Wang Gelfand Statistical Science 193–208, 2002) for factor-based design analysis, demonstrate relatively complex hierarchical models can be used approximate sizes experiments.

Bayesian Sample size Determination for Longitudinal Studies with Continuous Response using Marginal Models
Introduction Longitudinal study designs are common in a lot of scientific researches, especially in medical, social and economic sciences. The reason is that longitudinal studies allow researchers to measure changes of each individual over time and often have higher statistical power than cross-sectional studies. Choosing an appropriate sample size is a crucial step in a successful study. A st...
متن کاملBayesian Determination of Sample Size in Longitudinal Studies with Binary Responses Using Random Effects Models
Sample size determination is important in all statistical studies including longitudinal studies. This is usually done by considering a target power to reduce the costs of sampling. Choosing the right sample size using efficient methods, ensures that the researcher achieve goal of the study, by spending the least amount of energy, time and money. In this article, using a method based on simulat...
متن کاملA mixed Bayesian/Frequentist approach in sample size determination problem for clinical trials
In this paper we introduce a stochastic optimization method based ona mixed Bayesian/frequentist approach to a sample size determinationproblem in a clinical trial. The data are assumed to come from a nor-mal distribution for which both the mean and the variance are unknown. In contrast to the usual Bayesian decision theoretic methodology, whichassumes a single decision maker, our method recogni...
متن کاملOn determination of sample size in hierarchical binomial models.
We consider a two- and a three-stage hierarchical design containing the effects of k clusters with n units per cluster. In the two-stage model, the conditional distribution of the discrete response Y(i) is assumed to be independent binomial with mean n(straight theta)i (I=1,....k). The success probabilities, straight theta(i)'s, are assumed exchangeable across the k clusters, each arising from ...
متن کاملDeposition of carbon nanotubes in commonly used sample filter media
There is no single standard technique or methodology to characterize the size, structure, number, and chemical composition of airborne carbon nanotubes. Existing analytical instruments and analytical techniques for evaluating nanoparticle concentrations cannot simultaneously provide morphology, state of agglomeration, surface area, mass, size distribution and chemical composition data critical...
